Delhi is the biggest Umrah departure hub in north India, and nowhere is the pilgrimage more woven into daily life than in the neighbourhoods of Okhla, Jamia Nagar, Zakir Nagar, Batla House, Abul Fazal Enclave, Shaheen Bagh and Seelampur. If you live in these areas and are planning your first Umrah — or organising the journey for parents — this guide covers flights, package tiers, the new Saudi rules and a practical booking checklist.
Flights: Delhi is the easiest city in north India to depart from
Indira Gandhi International Airport has regular direct and one-stop services to both Jeddah (King Abdulaziz International) and Madinah (Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz) on carriers including Saudia, Air India and IndiGo. Direct flights take roughly 5½–6½ hours. Most of our groups fly into one city and out of the other (for example, land in Madinah, depart from Jeddah), which saves a long backtrack and gives you unhurried time in both harams.
Package tiers explained
| Tier | Hotel distance from Haram | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Economy | 1–2 km, with shuttle | Budget-conscious pilgrims, longer stays |
| Standard | 600–1000 m, walkable | Families balancing comfort and cost |
| Semi-Deluxe | 300–600 m from the Haram | Elderly pilgrims, shorter trips, Ramadan |
All tiers in our packages include return flights from Delhi, the Umrah visa, Nusuk-verified hotels, Indian meals, ziyarat in Makkah and Madinah, and inter-city transport. As a rough benchmark, complete 10–14 day packages from Delhi currently span from around ₹1.1 lakh in value seasons to ₹3 lakh+ for peak Ramadan departures with premium hotels — see current packages for live pricing.
The new rules Delhi pilgrims must know
- You cannot apply on Nusuk yourself. Indian passport holders must book through a licensed operator; the visa, hotel and transport are bundled and verified in the Nusuk system before the visa is issued. Full details in our visa rules guide.
- 30-day visa validity. The visa entry window is now 30 days from issuance, so applications are timed close to departure.
- Vaccines are checked at the airport. Meningococcal ACWY (at least 10 days before travel) is mandatory, and polio proof is now checked for Indian pilgrims. Vaccination is easy to arrange at hospitals and travel-vaccine clinics across South-East Delhi.
- Umrah and Rawdah permits are booked in the Nusuk app after you arrive — our group leaders help every pilgrim book their slots.
- Women can travel without a mahram under the updated rules when travelling with an organised group, which is how we arrange all ladies' bookings.
Booking checklist for families in Okhla, Shaheen Bagh & Zakir Nagar
- Check every traveller's passport: 6+ months validity, undamaged, blank pages available
- Decide your window: Rabi-ul-Awwal and winter dates offer value; Ramadan needs booking months ahead
- Choose the tier by walking ability — for elders, hotel distance matters more than star rating
- Complete ACWY and polio vaccinations at least 2–3 weeks before departure
- Share passport scans and photos with your operator; we handle Nusuk hotels, transport and visa timing
- Attend the pre-departure briefing (Ihram, Nusuk app, luggage and Zamzam rules)
